My practice is currently focussed on the way land is represented visually, considering tensions between occupancy and ownership. The layers of texture and colour come from visual material collected en route through a variety of landscapes.
Previously based in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, now in Hampshire, I am interested in the many complexities between nationhood and place that appear acutely in Scotland. This is both from a professional perspective as an artist, and on a personal level as a Scot who, due to economic pressures, both grew up outside of, and again as an adult had to leave, Scotland.
I love experimenting with the medium of screenprinting to see how different effects on the page can communicate an idea or open up a discussion. My practice involves spending many a happy hour at the studio.
When I’m not making things, I love watching films and tv. I like to think about the ideas put forward through the stories they tell, and what techniques are used to persuade us of those ideas. When I can, I also love to get out and about along woodland paths or up a gravelly slope and get a good look at some moss!
